NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME

Advocating for greater access to evidence-based parenting support within the NDIS.

Unfortunately, an inadvertent consequence of Australia’s National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is that fewer parents are accessing evidence-based parenting supports and fewer children are benefiting from optimal parenting practices.

PAFRA are advocating that the NDIS should promote the benefits of parenting support and incorporate mechanisms to permit greater access and participation in evidence-based parenting support.

Implementation and Forecasting for the National Disability Insurance Scheme

PAFRA have conducted an inquiry into current scheme implementation and forecasting for the NDIS.  We focus on how the NDIS is implemented and funded, and additional supports that are, or should be available to people with disability.

The inquiry was submitted to the Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme in 2022.  It is available for download below.

Parents' perspectives

The PAFRA Consumer End User Advisory Group (CEAG) provided insights to the perspectives of parents, to inform the PAFRA NDIS Submission.

A summary of the CEAG was included as supplementary material to the submission, and can be downloaded below.

Feedback on the Foundational Supports Consultation Paper

This publication provides feedback on the Department of Social Services' "Foundational Supports Consultation Paper." PAFRA supports the Department’s initiative to improve child development and family well-being but emphasizes the importance of prioritizing evidence-based parenting programs specifically tailored for families of children with disabilities.

PAFRA's recommendations were submitted to the Department of Social Services in 2024. It is available for download below.

Inclusion of Specialised Parenting Programs as NDIS Supports

This publication by the Parenting and Family Research Alliance (PAFRA) expresses concern that evidence-based parenting programs were excluded from the draft list of NDIS supports. PAFRA highlights the critical role of parenting programs in achieving better long-term outcomes for children with developmental delays or disabilities.

PAFRA's recommendations were submitted to the Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme in 2024.  It is available for download below.
